The Utah Browncoats Society was formed to aid in the support of our annual Can’t Stop the Serenity and other charity events. We hold several events per year to raise money for worthy causes.
Can’t Stop the Serenity is here to support charitable fundraising! Since 2006, we have raised over $1,000,000 for Equality Now and other charities. In Utah, you can see our list of charities we have donated to on our Good Works pages.
Organized entirely by volunteers, Can’t Stop the Serenity is a unique opportunity to indulge your geeky side while doing some good.
Once a year, we join together around the globe and host charity screenings of Serenity as well as many other festive events. We raise money to give to worthy causes, with a special focus on small local charities that can have a massive impact.
FanX Salt Lake City & Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog
We have been very fortunate to be part of FanX Salt Lake’s generosity toward fandom charities. Each year since 2014 they have donated both booth space and panel slots. Our most famous and well-attended event is the “con-closer” screening of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. A FanX institution, this event is attended by 8-900 fanatical fans who laugh, cry, groan, scream, and most importantly – SING ALONG!
Each screening helps collect thousands of dollars in donations that is given to charities and causes. We are blessed with vendors who help us raise money by donating their own goods to the opportunity drawings that we have, and we are also blessed with many volunteers who help with running the booth, selling tickets to the screening, collecting donations, and even creating items for donation.
In 2024, the donation grand prize was of a beautiful handmade Firefly themed quilt, which by itself raised nearly $1,000! Created by Board Members Kaeleigh and Karina, their loving dedication to the craft has been a wonderful addition to our events, and we hear they might be making another for 2025!
